Inquiry into alleged police highhandedness

 SHILLONG: A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to probe into the A·konggre assault case where as many as eight youths of Upper Akonggre, West Garo Hills were assaulted by a police team led by Addl. SP Bruno A Sangma on the night of January 5.

The inquiry was ordered following a complaint lodged by a delegation of locality NGOs, elders and women who met the Additional Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, A Ch. Marak on Monday to complaint against such act.

When contacted, the Additional Deputy Commissioner told this scribe that an inquiry was ordered following various complaints from the local NGOs of the area and the probe is expected to be completed within a short period of time.

“No major harm has been done to the boys but they have been sent for medical check ,” he added.
