Agartala: Tripura’s ruling CPI-M on Wednesday organised demonstrations across the state to protest attacks on party members in West Bengal, including on veteran legislator Abdur Rezzak Mollah, allegedly by Trinamool Congress activists.

“Thousands of people, including women and party leaders, organised demonstration and protest rallies across Tripura to condemn the series of attacks on the CPI-M leaders and members in West Bengal by the ruling Trinamool Congress,” Tripura CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar told reporters.

Dhar, a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) central committee member said that the ruling party in West Bengal has unleashed violent attacks on the democratic movements and freedom of expression of opinions by the opposition.

Many people were hospitalised after workers of the Trinamool Congress and the CPI-M clashed using firearms and stones in Bhangar block of South 24-Parganas district Tuesday, leaders of both parties claimed in Kolkata.

The CPI-M said 27 of its cadres were seriously injured in the attacks in Bhangar while the Trinamool claimed its 10 activists, including the party’s former legislator Arabul Islam, were injured.

The CPI-M also said that its legislator Abdur Rezzak Mollah was also attacked by Trinamool Congress workers led by Arabul Islam Sunday in the same area, about 30 km from Kolkata. (IANS)
