New Delhi: A voluntary organisation working for the upliftment of sex workers here has written to Justice Verma Committee seeking to legalise prostitution as a measure to check rape cases in the country.
Expressing anger over the brutal rape of the 23-year-old paramedical student that took place on December 16, the NGO — Bhartiya Patita Uddhar Sabha — said flesh trade in the country should be legalised.
Former Chief Justice of India J S Verma heads the three-member panel which would recommend changes in the anti-rape law.
The NGO works in the infamous G B Road area of the national capital which has over 100 brothels and more than 2,200 sex workers. (PTI)
