NONGPOH/SHILLONG: The SP of Ri Bhoi district Claudia Lyngwa was transferred as the commandant of 3rd MLP Battalion, Jowai for her alleged inaction after a truck hit the vehicle of an aide-de-camp (ADC) of the Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary – Sashidharan — on Sunday while he was trevelling through Ri Bhoi.

However, the sudden decision of the Government to transfer the SP at the request of the Governor has irked the NGOs of the district.

According to sources, senior police official Subba Reddy, posted in Delhi, will assume charge as the new SP of Ri Bhoi.

Sources said that after the car in which the ADC was travelling was hit by the truck thrice, the ADC lodged a complaint with the Governor which compelled him to speak to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for the removal of Claudia.

The ADC as well as the Governor alleged that Claudia, who was out of station, did not even bother to trace the truck, which fled away after hitting the car three times.

The ADC had also claimed that the SP did not return the call when he tried to call her.

Sources said that the Chief Minister after receiving complaint had to effect the transfer to appease the Governor.

There were also reports that Claudia was close to the MPCC president DD Lapang and the Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh and her transfer was an attempt on the part of the Government to prevent any influence on her part in the upcoming elections.

The SP was not available for comments.

However, the leading NGOs of Ri Bhoi district demanded immediate cancellation of the transfer order.

The KSU North Khasi Hills President F Kharkamni has opposed the transfer order as according to the Union, she was found to be efficient and tactful in maintaining peace and tranquility in the district.

The FKJGP North Khasi Hills president E G Kharbani also warned of agitation programme, if the government did not revoke the transfer order

The RBYF general secretary L K Sawkmie also opposed the transfer of Lyngwa and demanded her retention.
