SHILLONG: The Meghalaya United Womens Welfare Organization (MUWWO) has demanded a day to day trial in fast track courts for the rape incidents being committed in the State as well as the country.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, MUWWO president Aruna Biswa also said that that the Government must also hold a special session with regards to rape cases.

According to the organization, in the bid to curb down the rape incidents, there must be rigorous punishments like chemical castration for sexual violence.

It may be mentioned that the state as well as the country has seen a steep rise in the number of rape cases against women and minors in the recent past.

The group is also of the view that the police must change its attitude while taking trials besides which, men must be sensitized to respect the dignity of women at homes and even in schools. “The men must be sensitized on the issue to change their mindset,” Biswa added in the statement.
