SHILLONG: Congress candidate from Mawryngkneng constituency, Pynehborlang Mukhim, on Tuesday kicked-off his election campaign at a public gathering at Pommura village.

Speaking at the gathering, Congress leaders urged the party supporters to work hard to ensure the victory of the party candidate from the constituency.

Mukhim, the youngest Congress candidate, said that he would try to change the face of the constituency if he is elected. “To win this election, I would need the support of all the people of the constituency,” he said. Over 5000 Congress supporters attended the public meeting.

Meanwhile, Independent candidate from Mawryngkneng, MP Muktieh, also started his campaign in a public meeting at Umpling.

Muktieh, who took voluntary retirement as PHE Executive Engineer, said he has decided to resign from his job after seeing the miseries of the poor people of the constituency.

He said that he did not seek any party ticket since he wanted to win with the blessings of the people.
