SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Sanjay Goyal on Monday issued a show cause notice to NCP president and Laban legislator Sanbor Shullai for his alleged violation the election model code of conduct.
Goyal has directed Shullai to submit his reply on or before January 17.
When asked about the action that is likely to be taken against the Laban MLA, Goyal declined to comment, saying that a decision will be taken only after receiving Shullai’s reply.
“The Election Commission will take action based on the report of the State’s Chief Electoral Officer,” the District Election Officer added. It may be mentioned that the sitting legislator on Saturday last had distributed several utility items including blankets, plastic chairs and tables under the MLA Scheme to beneficiaries of his constituency at Raid Laban College a day after the Election Commission announced the poll date in Meghalaya and enforced the election model code of conduct.
