SHILLONG: The flying squad of the State Election Department on Wednesday conducted a search at the godown of Congress candidate from Shillong West, Mohindro Rapsang, following a complaint that he was distributing some items in the constituency in violation of the model code of conduct.

Official sources informed that the flying squad had seized some items from the godown at Qualapatty. However, after a detailed investigation, the flying squad concluded that it was only a false alarm.

The flying squad later returned the seized items, the official sources added.

Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner also the District Election Officer, Sanjay Goyal, has informed that so far they have received a total number of four complaints relating to violation of the model code of conduct.

After inquiries, Goyal said that only one of the complaints was found to be valid.

“The only valid case is against sitting Laban legislator Sanbor Shullai,” Goyal said.

When asked about the other three complaints, Goyal mentioned that complaints had been lodged against Mylliem legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Mawsynram legislator Pynshngain N Syiem and Shillong West candidate Mohindro Rapsang, all from the Congress.
