Tension continues in Tripura village for action against police

Agartala: Tension has been prevailing among the villages of remote Dhanurampara of Gandacherra in eastern part of Tripura for past few days, demanding action against an erring sub-divisional police officer for allegedly killing a 27-year-old man on December 16 last year.

The villagers’ have been demonstrating with the report of shifting of the victim from Agartala Govt Medical College to Kamalpur Jail with his seriously wounded right leg without information on what ground the case is registered against him.

According to report, Shatruguna Reang was a native of Dhanurampara went to fetch his pregnant wife from Trarabon colony which is one km away from Gandachera Sub-Division when allegedly SDPO of Gandachera Ronobhir Debbarma shot him.

Shatruguna managed escape with his hurt leg into the dense forest to save himself. Polices searched him in the jungle but could not trace him out. When his neighbors and villagers searched, they found him badly wounded.

When the villagers brought him to Gandachera hospital he was arrested by the police. He was in the hospital for three weeks without any sign of improvement.

On January 4, thousands of tribal youths took out a protest rally in and around the Gandachera Market against the heinous crime and had submitted the memorandum to the SDM and filed an FIR against the erring police official. According to police, Shatruguna was a surrendered NLFT militant in 2006 and ever after that villagers confirmed that, he is living a normal life but police had mistaken to identify him as underground extremist.
