Nagaland Independent candidates to resign on Monday

Kohima: All the six independent candidates, who are currently with the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government are likely to resign on Monday to pave their way to obtain NPF tickets from their respective Assembly constituencies.

The six independent candidates are Parliamentary Secretary Social Welfare, Child and Women Development Chotisuh Sazo, Minister for PHE Dr Ngangshi K Ao, Parliamentary Secretary for Industries and Commerce Dr K C Nihoshe, Parliamentary Secretary Transport and Communication, Mechanical Engineering P Dako Phom, Chairman, Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation Kipili Sangtam and Chairman of the Nagaland Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation Shetoyi Sumi. The present 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly with 60 legislators, where Naga Peoples Front (NPF) has 35 legislators, supported by six Independent Members and the Opposition Congress party has 18 legislator and support one Independent Member.

The Congress party had 21 members, out of which two resigned from the Membership of party and Assembly and returned to the Assembly as NPF candidates, while one Congress legislator Nungshizenba expired and the NPF candidate Toshitpokba won the seat in the by-election for the vacant seat in September 2011.
