SHILLONG: West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya has been chosen for the Best Electoral Practices Award by the Election Commission of India for organizing the second best campaign in the country for electoral awareness and voters’ education under the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Plan.
All together more than 75 nominations were received by the Election Commission from different states of the country and out of these 13 were shortlisted for the award.
The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officers were invited to the Election Commission of India office at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi to make a presentation on January 10 and finally three were selected for the award inclusive of all categories like youth awareness programme for electoral registration and voters’ education and awareness.
The award would be handed over to Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on January 25, the National Voters’ Day. The award carries a citation, a cheque of Rs 50,000 and a certificate.
