Fresh allegations against Induscreed

SHILLONG: The CSWO has made fresh allegations against medicine manufacturer Induscreed.

In reply to a RTI question filed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing on Tolu Syrup (cough syrup) manufactured by Induscreed, the office of the Regional Drugs Testing Laboratory, Directorate General of Health Services, Guwahati through a letter dated May 18, 2010, addressed to Inspector of Drugs, Nongpoh, said that the sample of Tolu Syrup is “not of standard quality as defined in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the sample does not conform to IP (Indian Pharmacopeia) standards”.

The RTI reply also revealed that the Judicial First Class Magistrate of Nongpoh has ordered launching prosecution against Induscreed in 2010 which was underscored by the Inspector of Drugs, Ri Bhoi.

“It is therefore requested to take legal action under Section 18 (a) (i) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 which attracts penalty under section 27 (d)”, Inspector of Drugs, Ri Bhoi, observed in a note on July 30, 2010.
