Two GNLA rebels killed in Assam

Goalpara (Assam): Two Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam’s Goalpara district on Tuesday, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, police and the army launched a joint operation in Khardang Tarang Thop area under Krishnai police station and came across a group of three militants.

The militants opened fire in a bid to escape and an encounter followed in which two militants were killed on the spot while another managed to escape.

The security forces recovered two 7.65 pistols and four live ammunition from the slain militants while search operations were on to nab those who managed to escape, sources added. (PTI)

Our reporter adds: Meanwhile, the BSF personnel deployed in West Garo Hills along with state Police carried out joint operation at Beta Sing market area and apprehended two GNLA linkman on Monday.

The apprehended persons have been identified as Janath D Sangma (23) and Mathani Momin ( 19) years, adding the on the lead provided by the apprehendee, one Pistol was recovered from the house of Janath D Sangma.

The apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to the concerned police station for necessary action as per the law.
