Guwahati: In suspected Panchayat-poll centric violence, two blasts were reported from western Assam’s Goalpara district and explosion of cracker-like objects in three places in Dhubri district on Saturday night. Goalpara police confirmed on Sunday two blasts of hand-made crude bombs in Jaleswar area in the district.

One blast went off in front of the residence of local AIUDF MLA Moinuddin Ahmed, while another was reported from under a bridge some distance away.

No one was injured in the blasts, nor any damaged caused, police said. Locals managed to catch one of two motor-bike youths, suspected to have lobbed the bombs.

However, the apprehended youth, identified as Nazrul Khan of Dhubri, was lynched by the public before police could reach the spot.

Some fake ULFA pads, demanding Rs one crore from the MLA, were recovered from near Mr Ahmed’s residence, police added.

In neighbouring Dhubri district, explosion of high-volumn cracker-like objects were reported from three areas under Fakirganj police station Saturday night. (UNI)
