TURA: The newly formed national political party, Rashtriya Secular Congress (RSC) will make an entry into the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election 2013 with Mrs Lalnunthari D Shira appointed as president of Meghalaya State Rashtriya Secular Congress.

RSC which was supposed to debut in the upcoming 2014 Lok Sabha polls was formed with its temporary headquarters in Assam with an aim to give half of the seats to women candidates and to end social inequality, especially with regard to caste, gender etc.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Shira said the Party’s decision to take part in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly elections may be last minute but it is welcome considering its motto of giving a 50/50opportunity to both men and women.

She informed that the Party will declare its candidate list within three days.

The Meghalaya RSC president also informed that the National Party heads will also be present during the filing of nomination of the candidates.

Shira said that the Party does not believe in regionalism or religious obscurantism but in nationalism.
