SHILLONG: Four matches were played on Thursday in the U-14 Football Tournament 2013 of the Shillong Sports Association.

The first match saw Mawkhar SC outplay Lawmali Pyllun SC by a 3-0 margin. Although Lawmali played good football, they could not withstand the clever forwards of Mawkhar. Aaron Syiemlieh opened the account for Mawkhar in the 25th minute and was immediately followed by Mebankhrawnam Marwein in the 26th.

Starting the second session, Teiborlang Lyngkhoi increased the tally to make it three-zero for Mawkhar and thus earned them a full three points for the team.

The second match featured a well-contested contest between Malki SC and Risa Colony SC where both sides displayed their talents in search of a lead.

However it was as late as in the 51st minute that Malki got a chance to score the only goal of the match through substitute Sumarlang Kharngi and thus earned a full three points.

The third match between Royal Wahingdoh and Smit SC was a one-sided affair as Wahingdoh score almost at will to win 8-1.

The Royal Wahingdoh boys had a slight height advantage and their training saw them in good stead as they did not allow Smit to have control of the game.

Duncan Tham opened the account for Wahingdoh as early as in the ninth minute, but it was Rheadulf Doloi who scored the first hat-trick of the tournament, his goals coming in the 19th, 49th and 50th minutes of the game. Other scorers were Melvin Marbaniang, Remos Suting and Raffle Wanniang.

The last match of the day between Nongkseh SC and Nongrah SC was a well balanced affair. Although Nongkseh appeared to be the better of the two, it was a strong Nongrah defence that deprived all of Nongkseh’s moves on goal.

Nongrah’s hard work paid off as it was in the 29th minute that Andreas Syiemiong put his team in the lead.

Not to be outdone, Nongkseh started the second session with renewed vigour and Manpura Shabong restored parity for Nongkseh in the 38th minute.

Thereafter both teams tried hard to break the deadlock but in vain and thus had to be contented with a 1-1 draw.
