SHILLONG: The Working president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Deborah Marak has asserted that the party has allotted to tickets to candidates as per the decision of the High Command.
Several senior party leaders including a Cabinet minister have been denied tickets for February 23 elections forcing some of them to join the fray as independents.
“We respect the decision of the High Command,” she said adding that it was not an easy task as several aspirants had applied for a single ticket.
“Now, we have to work together for the party,” she said.
The Congress is expected to face a tough challenge in Garo Hills from the newly-formed National People’s Party of Purno Sangma.
But according to her, the NPP (erstwhile NCP) would not be able to repeat the last election’s performance “as Congress under the leadership of Dr Mukul Sangma has done quite well in Garo Hills in terms of development.” According to Marak, no other party except Congress can provide a good administration in the State.
The MPCC Working president, who came under the attack of ANVC -B militants earlier during a function in Garo Hills, hoped that the militant outfits in Garo Hills would not disturb the poll process.
The Congress leader who could not win the last assembly elections from Williamnagar is once again contesting from the same constituency and will file her nomination papers on Monday.
