SHILLONG: There was a flurry of goals and every contest ended in a result in the four matches played on Monday for the U-14 Football Tournament 2013, organised by the Shillong Sports Association.

The first match was played between MLP Football Team and Riatsamthiah SC where the former beat the latter by a 3-1 margin.

It was Riatsamthiah who took the lead early on in the fourth minute of the match through Bonysing Jana.

Therafter MLP increased pressure to find the equaliser and despite a couple of attempts failing, their efforts paid off as they scored two consecutive goals in the 17th and 18th minutes through Banshanskhem Momin Mawthoh and Dimenson Khardewsaw to seize control back.

In the second half MLP did not let up on the pressure as Dimenson again found the net in the 35th minute.

The scoreline did not change and the match ended 3-1 in favour of MLP, who now have six points from their two outings.

The second match of the day between Umlyngka SC and Umpling SC was a one-sided affair as Umlyngka scored at will against the inexperienced Umpling side, who were 0-4 down at the end of the first half.

However hard Umpling tried to regain their footing, all their attempts went in vain as Umlyngka scored another five goals in the second session to end the match 9-0 in their favour.

The third match was played between Mylliem SC and Pohkseh SC where both teams showed equal strength in the first half and did not allow any of them to gain superiority in the match.

Mylliem got a few chances to score but all their attempts went in vain and the teams were locked at 0-0 at the interval.

Coming into the second session, the lanky Mylliem players demonstrated their skills and put immense pressure on the Pohkseh citadel, which started to give way from the 36th minute onwards.

Mylliem pumped in five goals in the thirty minutes of alloted time through Kebinson Langstieh, who scored a brace, and Frankstar, Wanpynshngain and Ialambeit, who scored a goal each.

The last match of the day between Pynthorbah and Lummawbah was the closest of the day as both sides displayed good football.

It was as early as in the fourth minute that Mebanraplang Kharmuti put Pynthor in the lead through a cross from Pynshngain who did not waste his chance to place the ball in the net.

Pynthor’s joy, however, was short-lived as Lummawbah found the equaliser through Khlurshai Tangwang just two minutes later.

Thereafter the match started to be more interesting as both teams tried hard for the lead but to no avail.

In the second half it was Pynthor again who showed some supremacy, but, as ill luck would have it, Lummawbah sprung a surprise in the 39th minute through Deron Kharpuri, who left the tall goalkeeper of Pynthor spellbound by his beautiful placement of the ball in the far corner of the net.

With time running out, Pynthor could not find the equaliser and the match ended 2-1 in Lummawbah’s favour.
