SHILLONG: Many eligible voters who have recently enrolled themselves are allegedly driven away by the election officials by saying that they can obtain their EPICs after the elections only.

There are complaints from voters that they are yet to get the EPICs though the Assembly election is just 20 days away.

As per the direction of Election Commission, the eligible voters can enroll themselves in the electoral rolls till the last date of filing of nomination papers of the candidates which is February 6.

According to the affected voters, mostly from rural areas, there are instances where they were denied EPICs by officials on the pretext that they were busy in view of filing of nominations by the candidates .

However, the chief electoral officer P Naik said that those who are denied EPICs should lodge a complaint with the respective Deputy Commissioners or other senior officials dealing with election matters.

Naik said all those who have enrolled themselves in the electoral rolls should get the EPICs.
