SHILLONG: The entire stretch near the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office which saw candidates along with their supporters make a beeline to file nominations became the centre of attraction for few hours on Tuesday thanks to an unclaimed packet found near the old General Post office (GPO).

The presence of the bag near the old GPO which is just few metres away from the DC office, where candidates for February 23 polls were filing their nominations, sent the police into a tizzy.

Soon a bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot as the people around were taken by surprise with the sequence of events.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang later said that the bag contained some papers and documents of Postal and Telegraph (P&T).

Reacting to a query, he informed that the person who left the bag by mistake at the spot has been identified.
