Hardcore GNLA cadre nabbed

SHILLONG: Acting on a tip off, the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed in South West Garo Hills launched an operation and apprehended a hardcore GNLA cadre from Mahendraganj on Monday.

The cadre has been identified as Chengbath Momin and is a resident of Ampati.

During preliminary questioning, the candidate revealed that he was proficient in the handling of weapons such as 9 mm Pistol, AK-47 and LMG.

He also admitted to his involvement in the kidnapping of a coal baron of Gasuapara and collection of Rs 5 lakh as ransom.

He also revealed that he was going to Baghmara for receiving arms from some Bangladeshi party.

In another incident, BSF troops of Latangtilla, deployed in Jaintia Hills district, apprehended one Bangladeshi illegal immigrant identified as Md Rafiq (35).

He was arrested while he was trying to infiltrate from Bangladesh. During search, the BSF recovered Rs 952 in Indian currency and two mobile phones with one Bangladeshi SIM from his possession.
