SHILLONG: Despite expressing his keenness to contest Meghalaya Assembly election earlier, the arrested GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma has decided against joining the electoral battle.

Earlier the lawyer of the rebel leader Sujit Dey claimed that Champion would contest the election under any circumstance.

The lawyer even stated that the rebel leader had already decided the constituency from which he would contest.

But all these claims of Dey proved to be untrue since Champion did not file nomination on Wednesday, which was the last day for filing nominations.

Despite several attempts, Dey could not be contacted on his mobile.

A former DSP, Champion Sangma had floated GNLA along with former ANVC surrendered cadre Sohan Shira.
