Most of women candidates are crorepatis

SHILLONG: Majority of the women candidates contesting in the February 23 elections have movable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees.

Roshan Warjri, a Congress candidate from Shillong North, has movable and immovable assets worth Rs 47 lakh and Rs 19 crore respectively.

Warjri, a former MLA, has bank savings worth Rs 30 lakh and owns 40 tolas of inherited gold worth Rs 16 lakh besides 30 tolas of inherited silver worth Rs 21,660.

An Arts graduate from Lady Keane College in the city, Warjri owns a 44369 sq ft plot of non-agricultural land purchased in 2004 worth RS 53 lakh, a 37146 sq ft plot of land at Langkyrding in Mawpat purchased in 1991 worth Rs 4 crore and an inherited plot of land measuring 6000 sq ft at Nongmali in Mawlai worth Rs 90 lakh.

She also owns a commercial building at Lachumiere measuring 2800 sq ft (built-up area-1200 sq ft) purchased in 1985 worth Rs 84 lakh besides inherited residential buildings at Mawkhar measuring 3700 sq ft worth Rs 2 crore and at Mawlai Mawroh measuring 73600 sq ft worth Rs 11 crore.

The total value of her self-acquired asset is Rs 5.4 crore while the total value of inherited assets is Rs 13 crore.

Banalari Khongwar, who is the owner of Banalari World Cars, has Rs 5 lakh cash in hand and owns 40 tolas of gold worth Rs 12 lakh besides owning many vehicles and a lump-sum savings in the bank. The gross total value of Khongwar’s movable assets is Rs 4.8 crore.

Her husband, Godwin M Roy Lakiang, has Rs 4 lakh cash in hand while her dependents have Rs 20, 000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

A class IX pass, Khongwar has a pending case in the court under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 which was taken up by the Judicial Magistrate, Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi in the year 2010.

The purchase price of her self-acquired immovable property is Rs 2.4 crore while the construction cost of immovable property after purchase is worth Rs 9.8 crore. She also owns acres of both agricultural and non-agricultural land, residential and commercial buildings worth crores of rupees. The total current market value of her immovable assets is Rs 17.2 crore.

Ibarilin Kharsati, a UDP candidate from Shillong North has movable and immovable assets worth Rs 51 lakh and Rs 18 crore respectively.

Kharsati, who is an ex-principal of Pearly Dew School, Jaiaw and a social worker has Rs 2 lakh cash in hand besides a good amount of bank savings. Apart from owning many vehicles, Kharsati has 10 tolas of gold worth Rs 3.5 lakh and other household goods worth Rs 7 lakh.

Her husband, George Lyngdoh has Rs 1 lakh cash in hand besides bank savings and owns several vehicles. The gross total value of his movable assets is Rs 39 lakh.

Kharsati, who is an M. Phil in History, owns inherited and self-acquired agricultural and non-agricultural land and residential buildings worth Rs 18 crore. The total value of her self-acquired asset is Rs 1.3 crore while that of the inherited assets is Rs 17 crore. The total current market value of her immovable assets is Rs 18 crore while that of her husband is Rs 11 lakh.

Irin Lyngdoh, an Independent candidate form Mawthadraishan constituency, has Rs 50,000 cash in hand and Rs 11 lakh in the bank besides owning a Bolero (ML 05 E 0024) purchased in 2004 worth Rs 5 lakh and 10 tolas of gold worth Rs 4 lakh. The gross total value of her movable assets is Rs 20 lakh.

Lyngdoh, a graduate and a member of the KHADC owns residential buildings in Kench’s Trace measuring 533.27 sq ft purchased in 1997 worth Rs 1 crore.

Teilinia S Thangkhiew, an Independent candidate from Mylliem Constituency has Rs 2 lakh cash in hand and owns jewellery worth Rs 90,000 besides savings in the bank. She owns many vehicles while her husband, Darry Cooper Kharmujai, has Rs 1.5 lakh cash in hand besides savings in the bank and jewellery worth Rs 16,000.

Thangkhiew, who is also the sitting MDC of Mylliem constituency, owns two vehicles (Indica-ML 05 G 0268 and Bolero- ML 05 0678) purchased in 2009 and 2012 worth Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh respectively. The gross total value of Thangkhiew’s movable assets is worth Rs 17 lakh while that of her husband is Rs 1.6 lakh.

A graduate in Tourism and Travel Management, Thangkhiew owns an inherited non-agricultural land measuring 188.85 sq ft at Kench’s Trace, let out on lease since 2000 worth Rs 20 lakh.

Her grand total of liabilities is Rs 5.7 lakh.

Fardina C Marak, an Independent candidate from Songsak Constituency has Rs 40,000 in hand and Rs 7000 money in the bank besides owning jewelry worth Rs 3.2 lakh while her husband has Rs 20,000 cash in hand and Rs 10,000 in the bank besides owning a Santro Xing (ML 05 D 9233) worth RS 3 lakh and jewelry worth Rs 3.8 lakh. The gross total value of her movable assets is Rs 4.4 lakh while that of her husband is Rs 7.1 lakh.

Marak and her husband own inherited non-agricultural land at Cherangre measuring 5 bigha worth Rs 4.5 lakh each and two inherited residential buildings at Chiminmingre measuring 400 and 415 sq ft worth Rs 8 lakh. The current total market value of Marak’s immovable assets is Rs 19 lakh while that of her husband is Rs 4.5 lakh.

Marak is a class XII pass.

Veecare Nicia Lamare, a BJP candidate from Nartiang constituency is the ‘poorest woman candidate’ with movable assets worth Rs 21,271 and no immovable assets.

As per the affidavit filed by Lamare before the West Jaintia Hills Returning Officer on Tuesday, she has has Rs 15,000 cash in hand and Rs 6271 in the bank. Lamare is a matriculate.
