PM to campaign in Shillong on Feb 15

SHILLONG: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will be the star campaigners for Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections in the State.

As many as 16 Congress leaders from Delhi will be campaigning in the State.

The Prime Minister will address a rally in Shillong on February 15 while the UPA chairperson would address rallies in Jowai and Tura on February 19.

Rahul, however, would address rallies in Nongpoh and Khliehriat on February 20.

Apart from these three top leaders, Union Defence Minister AK Antony would address two poll rallies in Shillong on February 17 and 18 while Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde would campaign in Garo Hill on February 9 and 10.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would also be campaigning in Garo Hills on February 14 and 15.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Priya Dutt would be campaigning in Shillong and other parts of East Khasi Hills on February 9 and 10. Moreover, Union Minister of State Nenong Ering would be campaigning in Shillong and other parts of East Khasi Hills from February 17 to 19.

However, Congress MP Deepa Das Munshi would be campaigning in Shillong and Tura on February 18 and 19 while senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandez would address a rally in Shillong and Jaintia Hills on February 9 and 10.

Bollywood actor and Congress MP Raj Babbar would be campaigning in Shillong and Jaintia Hills on February 15 and 16.

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram is scheduled to visit the State on February 16 and 17. The schedule of his meeting is not yet finalised.

NSUI president Rahit Choudhury would be visiting the various parts of the State from February 11 and 22 while All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) president Anita Verma would be campaigning in the State on February 15 and 16.

Interestingly, none of the Congress central leaders would go to campaign in West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills.
