ECI increases a day for casting postal ballot

Agartala: The election commission of India (ECI) has increased a day for casting postal ballots by polling and security personnel engaged in Feb 14 election to Tripura assembly.

Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said here on Sunday at the end of the exercise it appeared a few hundred of the jawans of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and state armed police could not cast the ballot because of non-issuance of postal ballots.

Mr Jindal however, directed all the commandants of TSR battalions to facilitate casting postal ballots to jawans without fail by Monday while asked the returning officers to ensure sending of the postal ballots to the concern voters.”ECI is sincere to guarantee the voters to rights at any cost and since, beginning of the process we had extended the period of summery revision and at the final stage, casting of postal ballot has also been extended,” Mr Jindal stated.

According to report, a many of them did not fill up Form 12 putting the requisition of postal ballots properly that became a hurdle for the election officials to issue the ballots to the concerned officials. (UNI)
