SHILLONG: The banned Garo outfit GNLA has blamed former Meghalaya DGP (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan for the death of Assistant Jailer Neil Warjri and Warder Sarai Sing Thabah at the hands of ANVC-B militants during the attack on Williamnagar jail last week.

Breaking their silence on the jail incident, the GNLA’s political affairs secretary Bikdot Nikjang Marak communicated to a section of the media the causes which led to the death of the two unarmed jail staff.

“The former DG of Prisons Kulbir Krishan was partly responsible for the death of loving Bah Neil (Warjri) because Kulbir transferred him from Shillong Jail to Williamnagar as punishment posting for reasons best known to the DG,” revealed Marak.

“GNLA is not connected to the cold blooded murder of the two jail staff and we regret condemnation of some sections of society against us,” he added.

“A jail staff is not a policeman and GNLA has no reason to target unarmed and innocent employees. Those who condemn us should first unearth the truth before pointing their finger at us,” mentioned Marak.

He said that the late Assistant Jailer was well liked by all prisoners when he was posted in Shillong Jail and mentioned the good word GNLA commander-in-chief Sohan D Shira had for late Warjri when he had been jailed a few years ago.

The GNLA leader further revealed that late Warjri was in charge of their chairman Champion R Sangma’s prison cell in Shillong but was transferred out along with F Wahlang by the DG because they shared a very cordial relationship with all prisoners which did not go down well with the top brasses.

“They died for no fault of theirs and Kulbir Krishan has to take the blame. The Meghalaya government provides all the required compensation and benefits for the family of Warjri and Thabah just like they had done for late Raymond Diengdoh, a DSP who had died in the line of duty,” demanded the GNLA.
