Guwahati: Multiple acts of arson were reported from across Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) areas of western Assam Sunday night, as miscreants continued to torch public infrastructure protesting Tuesday’s Panchayat polls in the areas.

Reports said here that at least three schools, which were to be turned into polling stations, were torched Sunday night. A weekly market complex in Boko was also set ablaze, though the inferno was controlled before more damage as locals and security personnel saw the blaze and alerted the fire brigade immediately.

Miscreants set on fire two trucks on national highway 37 passing through the area Sunday night. Several cases of arson have been reported from the RHAC areas since the announcement of Panchayat polls.

Besides torching schools and panchayat offices, miscreants have also burnt bridges, damaged roads and blocked traffic. (UNI)
