NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP Mawkywat Circle along with the FKJGP Mawranglang Unit and the village authorities of Mawranglang on Monday organised a cleanliness drive at Mawranglang View Point, South West Khasi Hills District.

The drive began at 9 am and was led by RN Wartde, FKJGP Mawkyrwat Circle, Remdor Thongni, vice president, FKJGP West Khasi Hills and Kliarson Kharsyiemlieh, headman of Mawranglang Village.

Kharsyiemlieh said that the View Point was inaugurated in 1996 by the Soil Department. He recollected that the View Point had security guards then. He also recollected that in 2007-2008 after the construction of six sheds with the help of the Tourism Department, the View Point was handed over to the village authorities which later constructed toilets in the vicinity. Kharsyiemlieh rued that that visitors were littering the place and the Tourism Department had a lackadaisical attitude towards maintenance of the View Point.

Kharsyiemlieh also stressed that the View Point was unique and had a beauty of its own and it urgently needed the help of the Government for preservation.

Wartde also urged the Government to take urgent and appropriate measures to safe-guard the Mawranglang View Point.

The FKJGP along with the village authorities also put up a notice board asking all visitors to keep the View Point clean and warning of action against defaulters.
