SHILLONG: Security forces arrested a hardcore GNLA rebel and his aide from an area near the Indo-Bangladesh border in South West Garo Hills district, officials said on Tuesday. The BSF on Monday apprehended one GNLA cadre The arrested cadre has been identified as Mariours N Sangma (26). A country-made gun and ammunition were recovered from Sangma’s possession along with a mobile phone and camouflage uniforms.
During preliminary questioning, the rebel confessed that he was involved in a number of extortion cases and activity related to the militant organisation GNLA.
Subsequently, on the lead information provided by the apprehendee cadre, BSF along with police carried out joint operation in Ajangre and apprehended one GNLA overground worker identified as Jarbish A Sangma (19).
