SHILLONG: Former Union Minister of State Vincent H Pala has defended the decision of the UPA Government to bring railway project to Khasi Hills.

“I do not think Congress-led Government at the Centre has done anything wrong by approving the railway project. The Centre wanted to bring down the prices of essential commodities by having good trains in this part of the State,” Pala, who represents Shillong in Lok Sabha, said while addressing an election rally of Congress candidate from Mawthadraishan Boldness L Nongum at Kynshi on Tuesday. According to him, the Government approved Rs 8,700 crore for the railway project in Khasi Hills.

“The Centre still keeping aside the approved amount hoping that the people would welcome the project,” Pala said. The former Union Minister of State however said that the regional parties at the time election would talk big. “But after the election, they cannot survive without Congress,” Pala said.
