SHILLONG: The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) president Anita Verma has exuded confidence that all the six women candidates of the party will make it to the next Assembly.

“Women in matrilineal Meghalaya would be voting in large number in favour of women candidates. I also understand that women here are politically sound and I know they would vote for Congress to see that all their aspirations are fulfilled,” Verma, who arrived in the city on Thursday, said.

The AIMC president also stated that the indigenous people of Meghalaya will vote for the party back to power with an absolute majority.

Congress-led MUA Government has done a good job as far as growth and development of the State is concerned, she said adding “People also know that it is only the Congress which can provide stability and safeguard their interest.”

When asked whether it was a sign of desperation within the Congress to reclaim power by bringing in several star campaigners, the Congress leader differed by saying that the party leaders have been sent in order to bridge the connection with the grassroots workers and also to inspire the workers.

Verma said that the party which has a direct connection with the Centre always attains more assistance and patronage.
