SHILLONG: The Ka Lympung Ki Hynriew Shnong has asked the Chief Secretary WMS Pariat to direct the Deputy Commissioner of the East Khasi Hills not to accord permission to any music band or organization for holding any musical concerts at Khyndailad.

In a statement issued here, the president D Dkhar said that the request is not to discourage the young youths in displaying their musical skills, but to prevent unwarranted traffic jams that have impeded that smooth flowing of vehicles in places like Umsohsun, Mawkhar and other nearby areas.

The group said that the matter was earlier taken up with the Deputy Commissioner but the request was totally disregarded by holding a ‘trouble creating’ concert on Valentine’s Day.

According to the group, in these concerts, youths get an opportunity to indulge themselves into various type of intoxication which leads to fights and tussles. It may be mentioned that a musical evening was organized by the State Election Department on February 14 at Khyndailad to urge the young voters to vote on the all important Assembly elections.

Khyndailad is the only happening place in the city where various awareness programmes and even rock concerts are held for the youths and the area is also a meeting place for youngsters.
