Agartala: Demanding for immediate action to stop post-poll violence in Tripura perpetrated allegedly by the ruling party cadres, opposition Congress on Tuesday reiterated that the party would come into power with a comfortable majority.
Talking to media in a joint press conference Pradesh Congress president Sudip Roy Barman and Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath alleged 26 incidents of post poll violence had been reported so far in the state and despite lodging specific complaints in 17 cases police did not take any action rather trying to safeguard the criminals.
“Congress-led alliance will come into power with a safe margin and attacks of CPI-M cadres on the opposition supporters besides, threat and intimidations made us confirm that 20 years rule of Left Front is come to an end,” Mr Roy Barman said.
He, however, pointed out that 2-year-old Salil Hrishidas and 63-years old Shyamal Hrishidas of Pratapgarh of Agartala had fell victim of post poll violence on Monday of being voting against CPI-M candidate on February 14 election.
Salil was in the lap of his grandfather Shyamal Hrishidas when allegedly unruly CPI-M cadres had attacked them with lathi on Monday afternoon in front of their house.
“When I rush out to rescue them, I am also fall victim of the brutality of the cadres,” said Aparna, Salil’s mother and added: “We don’t have money to go to hospital and now we came to Congress leaders to help us.”
Mr Nath said the party leaders and candidates had been in the review meeting of the post poll situation and possible outcome of just concluded assembly election when the lady came up with an injured old man and a minor at Congress Bhavan.
Seventeen complaints were lodged against post poll violence and terror tactics of ruling party including hurling of bombs and murdering a 50-years-old Congress supporters in past four days. But no arrest has yet been reported.
He said that Congress guarantees that no political retribution will be carried out on ruling party supporters or any political adversaries if Congress-INPT-NCT alliance comes back to power in the state. (UNI)
