SHILLONG: The flying squad in South West Khasi Hills District seized over Rs 4.5 lakh from a Congress worker at Jakrem in Mawkyrwat on Tuesday.

Congress worker V Bansal, who had come all the way from Delhi, revealed that the money was meant for the expenditure for Rahul Gandhi’s election rally at Mawkyrwat on Wednesday.

According to the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) of SWKH Aldous Mawlong Rs 50,000 was returned while the rest of the money was seized.

“This was done because as per the election guidelines only Rs 50,000 can be spent for such rallies,” Mawlong said.
