SHILLONG: Having to make a choice between his son and the party official candidate in Mawryngkneng constituency, senior Congress leader and Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope finally chose to back his family bonding over his party compulsion.

Pyngrope spoke at the public meeting of his son David A Nongrum at Umpling on the concluding day of the election campaign on Thursday.

“I want to assure the people that my son would continue to pursue the various initiatives which have been taken up in the constituency. He would be following my legacy if he is elected,” the senior Congress leader said while speaking at the public meeting.

When contacted, Pyngrope said that it is not true that he had gone to campaign for his son.

“As a man from the locality and also being a sitting legislator, I was invited by the people to be present at the meeting to show their appreciation for the initiatives I have taken,” the senior Congress leader said.

Pyngrope also said, “As a father, I only give my best wishes to my son during my speech. The fact is that I have never gone campaigning for my son earlier”.
