Gogoi for insurance schemes for the girl child

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday urged the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Ltd to initiate schemes for the girl child.

The Chief Minister, in a meeting with a delegation of senior LIC officials here, discussed several issues related to the insurance sector and implementation of various schemes in the state.

Gogoi urged the delegation to introduce various schemes for the girl child and also for workers in the unorganised sector who are usually left out of the insurance ambit.

He also urged the delegation to give more emphasis on covering BPL families, women, unorganised labourers, pension scheme for workers among others.

Discussions were held on various social security schemes being implemented, including the Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana and Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Yojana for rural landless households and handloom weavers. (PTI)
