New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who met Chief Ministers and PCC Presidents of the North Eastern states including Dr Mukul Sangma, took stock of the post poll scene in the three states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland that went to polls recently.
Dr Sangma arrived here on Sunday night itself to meet Rahul.
However, MPCC president DD Lapang did not come to the national capital to attend the meeting.
Though Rahul had campaigned extensively in the region for his party, analysts say that Congress is likely to emerge as the single largest party only in Meghalaya. The Congress has little chance of forming the Government in Left Front ruled Tripura and DAN ruled Nagaland.
The main purpose of the meeting by Rahul was to strengthen the party in the states ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year, besides taking stock of the post poll scenario in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
This is the second part of consultations with state leaders, the earlier being held ten days back. State leaders from the Northeast had not attended those deliberations due to the Assembly polls.
Rahul had, earlier, held freewheeling discussions with the AICC office bearers about the challenges confronting the party and the way ahead.
The deliberations with state leaders assume significance as Assembly elections in nine states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, are scheduled this year while the Lok Sabha polls are due in about 15 months.
