Kohima: Several persons were injured, one of them seriously in the post-poll violence that broke out in Okotso village, under Sanis Assembly Constituency under Wokha district since February 23 between political parties.
According to sources, the Independent candidate from Sanis Assembly Constituency (A/C) Mhonbemo Lotha has reported the matter to Sungro Extra Assistant Commissioner, yet no action was initiated and no security was arranged for the village.
An FIR was lodged and the matter was reported to the district administration but none acknowledged his complaint.
Sources said one person was hit by machete (dao) at the back and nose on February 24 and was sent to Wokha for treatment.
The OC of the Sungro police station, who visited the site took stock of the situation yet nothing was improved.
In Mokokchung district, unruly miscreants cut off water pipe lines, electricity and blocked the road between Aolichen and Kupza village.
According to sources, Kupza villagers were affected by the incident. It was reported that there was no electricity in the village since Sunday.
Police also had gone to the village to take stock of the situation, source said.
In Phek district, supporters of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Independent candidates in Zhavame Village and Razaba town under Chizami A/C have alleged that Naga People’s Front workers had threatened them and other supporters, who had fled to the neighbouring villages including areas in Manipur in order to ‘save their lives.’
They also alleged that NPF supporters even seized mobile phones belonging to villagers owing allegiance to non-NPF parties and caused trauma even on ‘women and children.’
Both the parties also alleged that NPF supporters were ‘using brute force’ where three supporters of the independent candidate were injured-two at Zhavame village and one at Razeba town.
The complainant also alleged that NPF youth supporters from Zhavame Village arrived at neighbouring Razaba Town Local Ground Monday morning and prevented outsiders from entering the village.
The NPF youth even pelted stones at vehicles belonging to non-NPF party workers and supporters, they alleged.
The two also alleged that supporters of NPF candidate Deo Nukhu were ‘trying to undemocratically take control of the Polling Station and capture the entire booth.’
Meanwhile, the re-polling is being conducted in Zhavame village and Razeba town on Tuesday. (UNI)
