SHILLONG: Young Guns CC defeated Pinewood CC by just eight runs in the final of the Shillong Cricket League Second Division, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at the Cricket Grounds, Polo, on Tuesday.
Young Guns won the toss and chose to bat first, but were all out for 121in 20 overs. Skipper Junaid led from the front with 48 while Krishna Thapa took 3-20.
In reply, Pinewood lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually were short of the target, finishing on 113 all out in 20 overs.
Deepak Gurung scored 21 and Nishan Gurung scored 23 off 16 balls while Beeru took two for 13.
Both teams have now been promoted to the First Division.
Junaid was declared Man-of-the-Match and his colleague Sameer Qureshi was declared Man-of-the-Tournament.
Officials of the SCA – DM Marbaniang, Manik Das and K Pyrtuh – along with former East Zone and Tripura selector Alok Saha gave away the prizes.
