Srinagar: There was still no respite from the cold as fresh snowfall was experienced on the higher reaches while plains, including Srinagar had light rain in the Kashmir valley, where minimum dropped in Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that light rain or snow would occur at many places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
However, the weather will improve and remain dry during the subsequent two days.
There was one degree drop in the minimum temperature at Leh while it had improved by a notch at Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh National Highway, which remained closed since December last year due to more than ten feet of snow accumulated at Zojila pass.
Met spokesman said the minimum temperature at Leh was minus 4.8 degree Celsius against yesterday’s minus 3.6 degree while at Kargil it was minus 8.4 degree against minus 9.6 degree recorded on Wednesday.
Official sources said the upper heights in Gulmarg, including Affarwat and Khilanmarg received fresh light snowfall last night.
The other upper reaches in north Kashmir, including Kupwara, Bandipora and Bandipora also received fresh light snowfall. The spokesman said the minimum temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was recorded minus 9.5 degree, 3.5 notches colder than yesterday when it was minus 6 degree. (IANS)
