SHILLONG: While the Congress missed majority mark by a whisker in the 2013 Assembly elections, there were some parties which could not even open account in the State.
The Bhartya Janata Party (BJP) which had fielded 13 candidates failed to win even a single seat even as the party was expecting at least five to six seats.
The party had managed to secure a lone seat in the 2008 Assembly elections when current Congress legislator from Pynthorumkhrah contested on a BJP ticket.
The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) which fielded four candidates this time again failed to secure a single seat like the previous election.
New entrant into state politics, Samajwadi Party (SP), which contested in 11 constituencies, failed to make an impact in any of them.
Similarly, Communist Party of India (CPI) and Meghalaya Democratic Party (MDP) also fielded one candidate each. However, both failed to score.
Joining the flock was also the Rashtriya Secular Congress and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM, 4 candidates) which failed to win a seat.
