SHILLONG: Senior Congress leader Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said he was ready to take up the responsibility as the next Chief Minister if ‘such an offer comes his way’.
Earlier, during the leadership tussle within the Congress, Tynsong was offered the Chief Minister’s post as a suitable alternative to then Chief Minister DD Lapang.
However, the senior Congress leader turned down the offer, saying that he was not ready to hold such an important position.
“I think I have become more mature over the past few years to be able to take up this responsibility of leading the State,” Tynsong, who defeated his nearest UDP rival Banalari Khongwar by 4064 votes from Pynursla constituency, said after his victory on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Sohiong legislator and senior party leader HDR Lyngdoh, who is being touted as a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s post, has categorically denied that he was an aspirant.
“I am a loyal party man. I would accept whatever responsibility is given by the party,” Lyngdoh said.
