Haflong: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is slated to visit Haflong, headquarters of Assam’s Dima Hasao district, next week to attend a ‘home coming ceremony’ of Dima Hasao Daogah (DHD) militants.
The ceremony is scheduled to be held here on March 9 to welcome back the cadres and leaders of the rebel outfit DHD into the mainstream after a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) was signed between the government and the outfit on October 8 last year.
Meanwhile, Dilip Nunisa, DHD ‘chairman’, appealed to the people living in Dima Hasao irrespective of caste, creed and religion to extend their co-operation to help the former rebels to assimilate.
The DHD was formed in 1994 after the surrender of Dimasa National Security Force and in 2003, it came under ceasefire following appeals from several civil societies and intellectuals.
The DHD was later divided into two factions, one led by Mr Nunisa and the other by Jewel Garlosa, and both the factions held separate talks with the governments, resulting in the final MoS between all sides last year.
According to the MoS, the DHD had to dissolve within six months of the signing of MoS, which would be formally done in the ‘home coming ceremony’. (UNI)
