Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has assured the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) to fill up vacances in the Assam State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission as well as district consumer forums in the State soon.

In reply to a letter written by Justice Ashok Bhan, President, NCDRC, regarding early appointments in the office of president and members of consumer forums in Assam, Gogoi said the State Government had already filled up 16 posts in the district forums on the recommendation of the selection committee headed by the president, Assam State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The Chief Minister further pointed out that steps had been initiated to fill up the five resulting vacancies along with six new vacancies through advertisement as per the recommendation of the Selection Committee constituted as per the Consumer Protection Act 1986. Consumers as a whole in Assam have been facing hardship to lodge to bring their grievances to the notice of the authorities concerned in the view of lack of properly manned forums in consumer disputes redressal bodies in the State.
