Guwahati: The outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) anti-talks faction has declared its slain leader self-styled ‘sergeant major’ Dilip Asom alias Rajen Saikia as ‘national martyrs’of their revolution.

The leader was killed in an encounter with Army at Diyun in Arunachal Pradesh on March 3 last. Though the security forces claimed that the ULFA man was killed in encounter, the ULFA on Tuesday cliamed that he committed suicide instead of getting killed at the hands of enemy.

Meanwhile, the banned ULFA has issued a statement announcing that it has stopped collecting money in Tinsukia and Dibruagrh district of eastern Assam for the time being and called upon everybody not to comply with any request for donation for the ULFA by anybody till a further announcement from the outfit. Assam police DGP J N Chaudhury has stated that the ULFA hawks have been forced to stop extortion as the outfit no longer have trustwrthy operator in the field and the money collected on behalf of the outfit hardly reaches the outfit’s commander-in-chief Paresh Barua who is suspected to be taking shelter in Myanmar.
