Army, cops clash at Mahadev Khola

 SHILLONG: A stand-off between the Army and Police personnel resulting in blank fire by the civil police near 101 area on Sunday disrupted the otherwise peaceful Shivaratri festival at during Shivratri at Mahadev Khola Temple here.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the afternoon when a group of army personnel in civil uniform tried to barge inside the venue through the exit point and the police personnel on duty requested them not to enter resulting in a brawl following which the army personnel allegedly manhandled the cop on duty.

Other police personnel rushed to the scene to take

control of the matter but it went out of hand resulting in blank firing in the air by the police in order to control the situation.

When contacted the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Vivek Syiem said that an enquiry has been undertaken and they are examining the matter in association with the Military Police.
