SHILLONG: The State NCP Unit on Sunday stated that the party was not lobbying for any Cabinet berth for Sanbor Shullai.

Reacting to media reports in a section of the press that NCP state unit president Sanbor Shullai had been camping in New Delhi for more than a week in the hopes of being rewarded with a Cabinet berth, party general secretary Constantine Thma said that the NCP remains true to its commitment that it will perform its duty, either as part of the Government or as a constructive opposition, as per the situation.

Thma also clarified that Shullai was in New Delhi for less than 15 hours to attend a brief meeting with NCP general secretary Praful Patel to discuss matters related to the party.

“There was no discussion with regards to a cabinet berth as it is the prerogative of the Centre,” the statement said, while adding that the party has given its support to Congress on the directive of the NCP high command to provide stability to the State government.
