SHILLONG: The Dr Mukul Sangma led coalition Government will seek a vote of confidence on Monday during a special session of the State Legislative Assembly.
Pro tem Speaker Rowell Lyngdoh on Sunday informed that the first agenda of the day will be to move a motion seeking the vote of confidence by the Congress led coalition Government which will be followed by the election of the Speaker.
The Congress is confident of securing majority support in the House with 29 party legislators and with the support of eleven Independents and two NCP MLAs taking the coalition’s tally to 42.
Despite opposition from several quarters, Lyngdoh said the election for the post of Speaker will go on as per schedule.
Reacting to a query about the opposition against the appointment of AT Mondal as the Speaker, he said that only a section of the HSPDP has opposed the move.
He further said that NGOs have nothing to do with the appointment of the Speaker of the Assembly, as it is the prerogative of the elected MLAs of the House.
