Budget session from Thursday

SHILLONG: The budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will commence from Thursday.

Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday informed that the budget session will continue till March 22 and after a short recess, the House will re-assemble on April 8 and continue the session till April 18.

The vote on account will be presented in March while the full budget will be presented in April.

The upcoming budget session will be the first one for the MUA-II Cabinet.

The session will be conducted by Speaker AT Mondal which will commence with Governor RS Mooshahary’s Address on Thursday. Meanwhile, the State Cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposed draft of the Governor’s Address.

The Chief Minister informed that the Cabinet deliberated and worked out the proposed draft of the Address.

He, however, refused to divulge the content of the Address.

UDP MLAs’ meet

The eight elected legislators of the United Democratic Party (UDP) will meet on Wednesday to chalk out strategies for the upcoming budget session scheduled to start on Thursday.

UDP leader Donkupar Roy on Tuesday said, “We came to know about the budget session today so we will meet tomorrow and decide the issues to be taken up in the Assembly.”
