5 detained for poisoning fish

NONGSTOIN: The Village Defense Party (VDP) of Nongkynjang village in West Khasi Hills apprehended five persons for fishing illegally on the banks of river Kynshi at Tie?mang village on Thursday.

The five persons were detained at 11 pm with 20 kgs of fish which they had caught using pesticide. All five were taken to the Village Council, where they confessed to poisoning the river with half a kilogram of pesticide in order fish.

The accused intended to sell the fish, which were contaminated and unsafe for consumption, in Nongstoin.
